May 19 West Buttress Team – Still hoping for a summit window at High Camp

Guide Nicole Lawton called in an update for the May 19 Team, after their sixth day at High Camp at 17,200′ on the West Buttress.

Nicole and Leah hope to make their summit push today, June 5, if the winds have abated. We will update you on whether or not they decided to make a go for it. Summit day is a long day, typically anywhere between 9 and 12 hours, depending on conditions and how the team is feeling. They make their way up from 17,200′ up to an exposed, aesthetic ridge with views over the entire Alaska Range, below them. The sheer drops on each side, the cold temperatures and high elevations of this last push of the route demand good weather conditions for the teams to justify making a go at it.

Love you sooooo much, so get up there safely ASAP 🙂 then you can come down, have a bunch of hot showers, a yummy meal NOT cooked by you, a brew or two, some great stories to tell and then you can do it all over again w/Fischer when you’re all rested up!!
