Tashi Malik called in a nice update from the basin camp at 14,200′. The team took a short hike to a spot known as The Edge of The World this morning. This is an overlook with a stunning view down into the NE Fork of the Kahiltna Glacier. There is a rock outcrop that we often belay climbers onto, which is an easy scramble to the top; however, the drop off the other side is HUGE!
They then hiked up to the near the bottom of the fixed lines, a section of the route also known as the Headwall. They will need to retrace those steps in the coming days, when they move up to the 17,200′ High Camp. The weather looks like it should be improving on Sunday, so they might have another day of sitting at camp tomorrow, but spirits are high and our fingers are crossed!
